FEA’s Safe Schools Report: 2021-22 school year

Florida’s schools need help.

Covid cases are rising daily. Years of neglect have left schools with crumbling infrastructure and without working air conditioning. Our schools’ teacher and staff shortage was already far too high. Now rising illnesses and quarantines are pushing some districts to a breaking point. Bus driver shortages are creating havoc statewide.

How has Gov. DeSantis responded to these crises? He has already withheld billions of dollars intended to help schools and communities recover from the ongoing public health emergency. On top of that he is now threatening to take away funding from school districts who follow the medical advice given to them by doctors in their communities.

As educators, we know a bully when we see one and we know the only way to end bullying is to join together to call out the bad behavior.

Take a stand today by emailing Gov. DeSantis to tell him to stop threatening locally elected school board members for following their duty to keep students safe.
