Thursday July 16 through Monday July 21, FEA surveyed educators and parents to get their sense of comfort level with regards to returning to school campuses this fall. In all, almost 50,000 responses came into the survey. Of those who responded, approximately 44,000 educators who responded and nearly 5,000 parents who are not employed in a PreK-12 school system, college or university setting.
The results, which you’ll find below, are clear that parents and educators alike have grave concerns regarding Florida’s rush to reopen school campuses.
76% of respondents do not have faith their school can be reopened safely.

When given the choice, fewer than 10% of respondents would choose to go back to work in person this fall as scheduled, with 76% wanting either to continue exclusively virtual learning or a hybrid model of virtual and in-person.
48% of the educators who responded have children living at home. Of those, only 15% are comfortable sending their own child back to school this fall.

39% of educators report they are “more likely to retire or leave education earlier than planned.”
77% of non-educator parents would prefer either to continue with distance learning or a hybrid model as opposed to returning completely to in-person this fall.
Parents who are not educators
Parents who are not educators are slightly more willing to send their children back to school this fall than parents who are educators. However, 53% of non-educator parents report they are “not willing at all” to send their child back to school in the fall.
