Florida has seen a number of laws that directly impact educators, students, and their families. To help our members navigate these changes, FEA’s Professional Development and Educational Research Department brings you the Together We Rise Conference.

Sessions will focus on best practices for educators operating within the current political climate, strategies for fostering inclusive schools for educators and students, ideas on how to use professional learning to engage and recruit members locally, and more.

Attendees will also have opportunities to connect and build relationships with fellow union educators.

Session Descriptions

Beyond Creating Equity Through Allyship and Understanding (2 sessions)

This session will build on the work of the Creating Equity through Allyship and Understanding modules from past events. It focuses on what it looks like to be a culturally competent teacher with practical application of strategies.

Celebrating Black History (2 sessions)

This session is a discussion centered around why teaching Black history is important to our students and communities. Trainers will also highlight important figures in Black history and how they have and still are impacting us.

Equality Florida Presents: Can I Say Gay? Anti-LGBTQ+ Laws and their Impact on Education (2 sessions)

Decisions around education continue to thrust Florida schools into the national spotlight. With new laws and rules that impact LGBTQ+ teachers, students and their families, the uncertainty around implementation has stoked a lot of confusion and fear. This conversation will address legal issues being navigated by Florida school districts, general best practices for operating within this hostile political climate, and opportunities to get more deeply engaged in advocacy.

In My Culturally Responsive Era (2 sessions)

In today’s climate, as an educator it’s often hard to be ‘FEARLESS’. As a educator, you may be worried about your ‘REPUTATION’. We encourage you to ‘SPEAK NOW’ because it’s always darkest at ‘MIDNIGHT’ before dawn. Join us as we take inspiration from the music of Taylor Swift to discuss cultural responsiveness and connecting with our students. This is our version of how to be a ‘LOVER’.

PSRP (ESP) Bill of Rights for a Better Life (1 session)

Join us in this interactive session where we learn about the PSRP (ESP) Bill of Rights and envision how life-changing a living wage, affordable healthcare, paid leave, appropriate training and supplies, safe working conditions and job security will be for school support staffacross the nation.

SFEA/Aspiring Ed: Educator Panel (1 session)

This session for SFEA will focus on listening to a panel of educators at various levels of experience. After panelists speak they will be available for breakout sessions to follow up on their area of expertise.

SFEA Peer-Review and Collaboration on Resumes and Cover Letters (1 session)

During this session, SFEA will have time to collaborate, and peer-review resumes and cover letters. This is a non-traditional session as it will not be led by a facilitator but rather a work time to update your resume and cover letter. SFEA members will give each other feedback as well as additional members/staff who will be circulating in and out of the room throughout this time.

Stay Informed, Stay Empowered: FEA Legislative Update (2 sessions)

Join the Florida Education Association for a comprehensive statewide legislative update, designed to empower members with vital information and insights. Don’t miss out on shaping the future of education in Florida!

True Colors (2 sessions)

True Colors is an easy, entertaining way to identify your character spectrum to better understand yourself and others. True Colors uses four colors to identify distinct perspectives and personalities. Most of us have a dominant or bright color and are influenced or shaded by the other three colors, thus creating our True Colors Spectrum. True Colors establishes a common language by which we communicate core motivations, needs and behaviors. Discovering your spectrum is fun and exciting! Once you recognize the True Colors in yourself and others, you will be able to respond more appropriately and concisely in your varied communication settings.
