FAQ

How can I become an FEA member?

If you are an education employee in a public school in Florida you are eligible to join your local union, which includes membership in FEA and the AFT and NEA, our national affiliates. Contact your local union today to join!

How can I join Student FEA?

Student membership is available to those enrolled in postsecondary programs preparing them for employment in positions eligible for Active NEA membership. More information and an online enrollment form can be found on the NEA website.

How can I enroll as a retired member or renew an existing retired membership?

Retirees — or soon-to-be-retired educators — should contact their local retiree chapter. Retirees in counties with no chapter can contact Carol Drury, FEA Member Specialist, (850-201-2976 or carol.drury@floridaea.org) to join.

I don’t have my FEA membership card. How can I get a replacement one?

Call your local union office to request a replacement card. Be sure to verify that they have your current mailing address, including any apartment number.

How do I change my address in FEA’s records?

Our mailing records are supplied from each local affiliate. Be sure you have updated your information with your local affiliate (and your school district) and we will automatically update your information. You can update your email address or phone number in your membership account.

Where can I find out about FEA’s member benefits programs?

Information about FEA Member Benefits programs is available in the Member Center and on the FEA Member Benefits Facebook page.

I’m interested in becoming a teacher in Florida. What is the best source to find the requirements?

All the information you need to know about obtaining certification to teach in Florida can be found here.

How can I obtain information about the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE)?

Information about the teacher test can be found on the Florida Department of Education website.

Many of our local affiliates offer tutoring for the FTCE. Contact your local union to see if they offer tutoring.

I don’t always agree with FEA’s endorsed candidates. How can I make sure none of my dues money goes to candidates I don’t support?

FEA only recommends candidates who share our vision and commitment to public education and make our endorsements based on their views on public education, not other issues.

Furthermore, FEA is prohibited under federal law from using dues dollars to make campaign contributions. The same is true for your local union and for both of our national affiliates. No dues dollars are spent.

FEA and our national affiliates, as well as many of our locals, do have Political Action Committees (PACs) which accept voluntary contributions. Candidates must go through an endorsement process in order to receive these PAC donations.

If you are interested in having more of a voice in the endorsement process, you can contact your local union to inquire about serving on their government relations committee.
