The Power of Your Union Dues at Work

Florida student members partnered with Retired-FEA to spruce up a local elementary school  during 2013 Outreach to Teach    


A small army of FEA members, both students and retired, united in Atlanta, to share with the local community one of their most powerful examples of dues dollars at work.


The group SFEA Outreach to Teach 2013 in Atlantapictured joined more than 400 other educators from across the country to lend a hand at Thomasville Heights Elementary and provide an emotional boost for its students and staff.

The educators volunteered to redo the school’s landscaping, update the teacher’s lounge, paint murals and make improvements to an outdoor classroom.

The community service project called "Outreach to Teach", is sponsored by the NEA Student Program is held annually in the host town of the National Education Association Representative Assembly. Each year a local public elementary school is selected for the needed makeover.
 
The event received great coverage. Several TV and radio stations were present for the event, including WWPW – FM, “Power 96.1,” Atlanta’s top pop contemporary station who along with WBZY-FM, “105.3,” Atlanta’s number one regional Mexican station, broadcasted live.
