1968 Statewide Teacher Walkout

On February 19, 1968 some 35,000 teachers in Florida walked off their job protesting the state’s neglect of its public schools and students. The three-week statewide walkout — which would last as many as seven weeks in some counties — was the first of its kind in the United States and led to a number of improvements for students and teachers in Florida.
