National School Lunch Week

All-Star School Lunch” is a slam-dunk to help students learn about the importance of eating healthy and being active. Join us during National School Lunch Week, October 12-16

School lunch plays a critical role in the education of children. Hungry children do not learn. The National School Lunch Program provides the only healthy and nutritious meal for many poor students in our schools today and has made a positive difference in the academic success of countless students since its inception in 1946. More than 95 percent of schools participate in the NSLP serving more than 31 million children healthy and balanced meals daily that meet established dietary guidelines.

National School Lunch Week (NSLW) provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of school lunch with a fun theme. The NSLW will be celebrated Oct. 12-16. This year’s theme, “All-Star School Lunch,” is a slam dunk to help students learn about the importance of eating healthy and being active. The National Basketball Association (NBA)-inspired campaign is designed to help students draft and name their own all-star lunch team by choosing five healthy menu items, or players, to complete a nutritious school lunch team.

Go to the School Nutrition Association web site for more information and ideas for celebrating NSLW in your district.
