The Florida Education Association (FEA) is the largest association of professional employees and the largest labor union in the Southeast, representing more than 145,000 members. FEA members include teachers, education staff professionals, higher education faculty and graduate assistants, retirees, education students, and early career educators. FEA represents the professional and working interests of its members and plays a prominent role in shaping state policies that affect public schools. FEA is a merged state association affiliated with both the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

Position Summary

The Florida Education Association (FEA) seeks an experienced PD professional to join the Professional Development Department. The primary functions of this PD Specialist role include building and maintaining current and relevant professional resources, assist with the development and delivery of a diverse professional development plan, and to assist with writing and managing national and state grants. The successful candidate must possess the ability to successfully manage multiple high-priority projects, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and effectively utilize training software for live and remote trainings.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years teaching experience
  • Experience as a facilitator/trainer for adult learners
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
  • Ability to design and implement effective training and development.
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and related program software.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the development and delivery of a diverse professional development program that addresses member needs and drives educator and student success.
  2. Build and maintain current and relevant professional development resources to support FEA’s members and enhance local organizing capacity to recruit and retain members through quality professional development programs.
  3. Collaborate with internal staff and outside consultants to create and deliver professional development opportunities for members.
  4. Assist with identifying and sharing guidance regarding national and statewide trends and research-based practices in the areas of professional development, mentoring, instructional coaching, teacher evaluation, certification, educational reform, educator incentive plans, standards, assessment, accountability systems, and instructional issues.
  5. Monitor and provides assistance as needed regarding Teacher Preparation, Certification, Endorsements, Licensure, Educator Standards and Practice, Assessment and Evaluation, and Educator Effectiveness Systems.
  6. Assist with writing and managing national and state grants to bring professional development resources to FEA members.
  7. Ensure professional development opportunities and resources are relevant, current, and effective.
  8. Develop and implement evaluation tools to access the effectiveness of professional development opportunities and resources and implement changes as needed.
  9. Efficiently utilize technology and software such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word-Excel-PowerPoint) and Microsoft Office 365.
  10. Efficiently utilize training software such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, LinkedIn Learning, or other similar software programs for live and remotetrainings.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Professional Development.

  5. Perform all duties, responsibilities, and assignments within the guidelines outlined in the FSO/FEA Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with FEA Policies and Procedures.

Salary will be based on relevant experience and qualifications.
