The Florida Education Association (FEA) is the largest association of professional employees and the largest labor union in the Southeast, representing more than 150,000 members. Position Summary

The application developer position reports directly to the Director of Information Technology. This position will provide technical expertise and recommendations in building, extending, and supporting organization wide applications, systems, and software interfaces. This position will be responsible for planning and leading projects and initiatives to enhance our existing infrastructure and systems within FEA and across our affiliates.


  • Bachelors or equivalent 4-year degree in a technology field (information technology, computer science, computer systems management or software engineering) with 3 years of experience as a proven application developer OR a minimum 7 years of proven experience as an application developer with no degree
  • Experience in designing and building databases, applications, and APIs
  • Experience in desktop, client/server, and web-based architectures
  • Ability to program in Microsoft .NET / C#
  • Experience designing and working with Access Databases and applications
  • Extensive experience supporting and implementing Microsoft SQL Server 2012+, PowerShell and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and support Angular/JS, Typescript, React, GitHub, Node
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office Professional 2016 / 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) is essential
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and other Microsoft Office 365 Tenant APIs is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools (Microsoft Windows and *inx)
  • Proficient understanding of software design and programming principles
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Strong attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Industry certifications are a plus
  • Strong customer-service orientation
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience in working in Association or labor union environment is a plus

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Plan, analyze, design, implement and maintain full technology application stacks for the Florida Education Association
  • Write high quality source code to program complete applications within deadlines
  • Perform unit and integration testing before launch
  • Ability to research and create interop applications and APIs for new and existing systems
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing
  • Assist with ETL processes and generating reports using data across available organizational systems
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications
  • Evaluate existing applications to enhance functionality
  • Develop technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code
  • Work directly with service units and local affiliates to assist them with developing database solutions that will allow them to effectively communicate with and provide services to their constituents
  • Provide training, support, and assistance to the organization on the effective use of supported systems and applications
  • Assist with interdepartmental application and integration solutions related to but not limited to FEA’s political, legislative, organizing and communication efforts
  • Provide all support duties associated with the Help Desk based on own knowledge or referring to appropriate Information Technology Department staff and resources.
  • Collaborate with a team of IT professionals to plan and implement software systems and interfaces
  • Create presentations for local, regional, and state conferences related to job area assignments
  • Design and implement custom interface solutions for data movement across disparate systems
  • Monitor, maintain and correspond in a timely manner to requests and assigned tasks
  • This position requires some travel across the State of Florida
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology Services

Compensation & Benefits

The salary for this position is determined by the negotiated agreement between the Florida Education Association and the Florida Staff Organization based on relevant experience.
