What the bill does

  • HB 181(full text) would help to accomplish one of FEA’s legislative priorities by taking steps to provide a stable, secure retirement to those who have dedicated their lives to Florida’s children.

Votes

  • HB 577/SB 684 have yet to be heard in committee.

What’s Next

  • HB 577 will have its first committee stop in the House Education Quality Subcommittee.
  • SB 684 has not yet received its committee assignments.

Talking Points

  • Florida is facing a severe teacher shortage, meaning not all children receive the high-quality education they deserve and need. Waiving certification fees helps to remove one barrier that keeps qualified individuals from becoming teachers in Florida and can help in recruitment efforts.
  • Waiving certification fees helps with retention as well by giving teachers a little bit of a financial break when it is time to renew their professional teaching certification.
