What the bill does
- SB 1320 (full text)/HB 1223 (full text)/HB 1069 (full text) expands the provisions of last year’s Don’t Say Gay bill so that the law would now censor instruction in PreK-8. Currently, the provisions are limited to grades K-3.
- Prevents students from being asked what their preferred pronouns are and prohibits educators from disclosing their preferred pronouns.
- Requires that all materials for health instruction, including sex ed, to be approved by the Florida Department of Education.
What the bill does
- HB 181(full text) would help to accomplish one of FEA’s legislative priorities by taking steps to provide a stable, secure retirement to those who have dedicated their lives to Florida’s children.
What’s Next
- HB 1069 has been placed on the Special Order Calendar for Thursday, March 30.
- SB 1320 has one committee stop left, the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee.
Talking Points
- Every child deserves to feel safe, welcome, and loved while at school without exception. Legislation like this undermines that goal by stigmatizing members of the LGBTQ+ community.
- We owe it to our children to come together and finally make this a country where children of all races and genders have the freedom to be true to who they are so they can shape a better future and pursue their dreams.
- These bills are part of a larger push by the DeSantis administration to prop up his presidential campaign instead of focusing on the real issues that Florida’s parents, students and educators care about such as the teacher and staff shortage and making sure we have the strongest public education system in the nation.
