Important Information for those planning to attend:

 

Room Reservations

The 2017 Florida Education Association Delegate Assembly will be held at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando October 26 – 28. Unfortunately, the Rosen Centre Hotel is at capacity. However if you have not yet booked your room, there are still rooms available at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel located at 9939 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819. FEA delegates will receive the conference rate for hotel room accommodations of $139.00 per night single/double occupancy and additional persons at $20.00 each, plus 13.5% taxes. Overnight self-parking has been discounted for FEA members to $6.00 per vehicle.

Rooms must be reserved no later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. To book your room at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel, please call them directly at (866) 996-6338 and tell them you are one of the delegates from the Florida Education Association. Rooms are filling up quickly, so book yours now!

 
For those presidents who reserved rooms for your local at the Rosen Centre – if you find out that you will no longer need all of the rooms that you booked, please contact Joyce Hunter at joyce.hunter@floridaea.org before cancelling to ensure that those rooms are returned to FEA’s room block. We are trying to keep as many delegates in the Rosen Centre Hotel as possible.

 

Start Time

The Delegate Assembly will start promptly at 7:00 pm Thursday evening this year.  We will be giving away a cash prize as soon as it starts, but you must be present to win.

This year’s DA theme, Every Student, Every School, Every Day, will give us the chance to reflect on the importance of our leadership roles as we plan, discuss and debate important education issues and the organization's future course.  The decisions that are made at this meeting will have an impact on FEA and its affiliates, as well as education policy in Florida. As a delegate, you represent your colleagues back home. Your attendance is important. There will be four general sessions for the Delegate Assembly; the first Thursday evening, Friday sessions in the morning and afternoon, and a Saturday session commencing in the morning until the business of the meeting is concluded. Below is the information for voting:

Make a Donation to Hurricane Irma Victims

SFEA will be participating in Make a Difference Day by collecting donations for those impacted by Hurricane Irma. Delegates are invited to donate school supplies, nonperishable food, diapers and cleaning items throughout the DA. Everything will be packed on Saturday, October 28th (which is also the national Make a Difference Day!) and sent home with delegates from the impacted areas. By participating in this event, we have a chance of winning $10,000 toward our FEA hurricane relief fund! Click here to download the flyer for the event.


Special Assistance

FEA is pleased to announce that we will be offering special assistance to those who need it at the 2017 FEA Delegate Assembly. This is for any delegate who may need extra help during the voting process and other DA functions.

Delegates can pre-register for special assistance only by sending an email to Amy Rodman at amy.rodman@floridaea.org. You can also notify a registration specialist onsite at the DA registration desk for special assistance.

 

Child Care

FEA is pleased to inform you that child care will be made available to delegates at the FEA DA. You MUST pre-register for child care as soon as possible. The cost will be $25 per child, per day. Delegates can register for up to three sessions of childcare:

  1. Thursday, October 26    5:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight (dinner and snack will be provided)
  2. Friday, October 27    7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (breakfast, lunch and snack provided)
  3. Saturday, October 28     7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (breakfast and lunch provided) 

All delegates must pre-register before October 13If there are not enough requests made by October 13, we will be cancelling our reservation in order to not incur additional costs.

Anyone who would like to register their child should go to the website http://super-sitters.com/, hover over Rates and Reservations then click on Pre-register for Conference Childcare. Scroll the calendar to October and click on one of the DA event days (October 26, 27 and 28). You only need to fill out one form and it will cover all days.

There will be no on-site registration.

 

Human and Civil Rights Luncheon

 

Tickets are now on sale for the HCR Luncheon! This event will be held on Friday afternoon after the Second General Session from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Tickets to this event sell FAST, so order yours today. You will want to be in attendance as we recognize the individuals and groups who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in the advancement of civil rights, social justice, equality and diversity.


You can still get your HCR tickets in advance at the cost of $35. The price will increase to $40 on the day of the luncheon, if there are any tickets remaining. Don’t take the chance at missing out on this event. Send in your order today.

Membership Wheel

Don’t forget that if you recruited a new member from April 3, 2017 through October 25, 2017, bring a copy of the membership form to the Delegate Assembly to receive a gift and enter the drawing for a chance to spin the wheel and win up to $500 cash. The more members a delegate recruits, the more chances they’ll get to win big money!

 

Special Halloween Stayover Rate

The Rosen Centre is offering a special stayover rate of $89.00 per night if you would like to extend your stay after the Delegate Assembly.  The $89.00 rate will be available for up to a 3 night extension starting on Saturday, October 28 thru Tuesday, Oct 31.  Saturday night will be a BIG Halloween Party night at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal and Disney & SeaWorld also have Halloween special events.

If you would like to extend your stay at this special rate, simply request the additional nights when you book your reservation online.
