Teacher's Web Work Recognized and Rewarded
S
pace Tran is a WebProbe developed by Myra Palmer, a media specialist at Ensley Elementary School and member of Escambia Education Association (EEA). A school district in England discovered and adopted this WebProbe into their curriculum.
According to Ms. Palmer, her WebProbe is a modification of the WebQuest format developed by Bernie Dodge. The goal of the Space Tran WebProbe is for students to research the provided interactive websites then create a brochure advertising a galaxy tour of inner and outer planets. The brochure must include three elements: four destinations, information on seasonal aspects of each planet due to rotation and revolution, and the corresponding lunar phases.
The school district in England found the Ms. Palmer’s WebProbe on the Internet and wanted to include it in their curriculum. The district felt honor-bound to pay the author. Ensley Elementary recently received a check for $1,000. Ms. Palmer said, "The money will be used to purchase a focus projector. We can then create a learning environment in the media center where the media specialist will team with classroom teachers to provide exciting learning experiences for our 21st century students."
