If the picture identification does not contain a signature, you will be asked to provide an additional identification with your signature. You should not be turned away from the polls because you do not bring identification. If you do not have the proper identification, you will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot.
What is a provisional ballot?
- A provisional ballot is used to record your vote when there's an unresolved question about your eligibility.
Will my provisional ballot be counted?
- Your provisional ballot will only be counted if election officials determine after the election that you were eligible to vote and only if you cast the provisional ballot in your assigned polling place. Many provisional ballots are not counted. Use a provisional ballot only if there is no other way for you to vote on a regular ballot.
- Avoid the Election Day rush. Take advantage of early voting or voting by mail. You will need to contact the Supervisor of Elections to request a mail ballot.
- If you choose to vote at your precinct, vote early in the day to avoid the last-minute rush.
- Bring at least 2 family members, co-workers, friends or neighbors with you to the polls. Or offer to drive someone in need of a ride to the polls.
- Call at least 5 people and urge them to vote. Make sure they have the information they need to select pro-education candidates and candidates who will strive to improve conditions for working people. Make sure they are aware of the best amendment choices.
