MLK Remembrance

Each year on the third Monday of January, we celebrate the birth, the life and the dream of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. It is a time for our nation to remember the injustices that King fought to eradicate; a time to remember his fight for the freedom, equality and dignity of all races and peoples; a time to remember the message of change through nonviolence.

As this day approaches, it’s important to remember that the labor movement in this country was instrumental in creating the federal holiday that marks King’s birthday, which makes this holiday doubly important to us.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of King’s assassination and his dream remains alive as our nation continues to grow into a society that truly embraces diversity and opportunity.

So as you enjoy your day off from work Monday, take a few minutes to also consider how far we have come and how much more of the journey we still need to complete.
