ER&D Drive-In

Participants were trained in samplings of Foundation of Effective Teaching, Reading Comprehension, Thinking Math, Managing Anti-Social Behavior, Managing Anti-Social Behavior for Support Professionals, and Instructional Strategies that Work.

These professional development courses were developed by the American Federation of Teachers and are based upon “level three” research - research that has been established over and over again in differing educational settings with varied types of learners. This is not some new-fangled program or idea. These are tried and true strategies that improve student performance.

The purpose of the conference was to energize teachers and ESPs around ER&D and build relationships with local school district staff development departments. The strategy has paid off with many of the local associations partnering with their districts to start their own ER&D programs in the 2009-10 school year. Two of those associations are the Association of Bay County Educators and the Franklin County Classroom Teachers Association. Both associations have signed up for a train-the-trainer event at Panama City in June 2009. With the strategies and skills they learn in June they will be able to teach ER&D courses in their home districts.

If you are interested in starting an ER&D program in your association contact Danielle Montes, Director of Professional Development, Florida Education Association at 850-222-7769 or email danielle.montes@floridaea.org
